Toyota Partner with Oslo to Deliver 100 Hydrogen Powered Taxis

100 Toyota hydrogen-powered Mirai taxis will hit the roads of Oslo by the end 2022.

According to H2 Fuel, Everfuel has partnered up with the largest taxi operator in the Nordic region, and Toyota Norge for the effort that will further develop the hydrogen-powered taxi market in the region.

Under the agreement, agreed on 19 May, Hull Cars will provide its taxi licence holders with incentives to use hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

Further to that, Toyota will provide new hydrogen fuelled Toyota Mirai to taxi licence holders, initially in Oslo and then throughout the larger Norwegian cities as Everfuel’s hydrogen station network is established.

The team has said that each taxi is to be refuelled with green hydrogen, and licence holders who take part in the launch will benefit from discounted hydrogen fuel at Everfuel’s stations.

Commenting on the joint effort, Jacob Krosgaard, Founder of Everfuel, said, “Long-term collabortions are a key enabler in scaling green hydrogen as the clean fuel of choice for the future of transport.

“This partnership between Hull Cars, Toyota and Everfuel is a perfect example of how connecting the entire hydrogen value circle from safe production, distribution and also fuelling with vehicle providers and end consumers enables roll-out of solutions for commercialising green hydrogen fuel and the decarbonising transport at scale.”

Dag Kisgaard-Petersen, CEO of the Hull Cars Group, added, “Hydrogen taxis have the distinct advantage of being zero-emission at the same time as the fuel tank can be fully filled in three minutes.

“This has been demonstrated with amazing success in Paris and I truly believe that through this partnership, we will make hydrogen technology totally viable and competitive. The City of Oslo would like 20% of a total of around 2,500 taxis in Oslo to be fuelled by hydrogen.

“We will deliver on that if Enova are able to contribute by giving the necessary support to the taxi owners who are the first to lead the way.”
